Idol Headlines for 3/26/08

‘American Idol’: Rock of Ages If you had told me a month ago that in this week of the American Idol finals, Jason Castro or David Archuleta would be in the bottom three — while Kristy Lee Cook, Syesha Mercado, and Michael Johns looked on from the comfort and safety of those hideous blue chenille couches — I’d have said you were crazier than the bespangled, black-leather half gloves that Paula pulled out from the back trunk of her closet tonight. And, yeah, while the above scenario is about as likely to happen as Simon wearing a rainbow-hued button-down to Wednesday night’s results show, it wouldn’t be the most shocking turn of events — not after a bizarre set of performances on the bizarre ”Songs From the Year You Were Born” theme night. Entertainment Weekly Kristy Lee Cook surprises on ‘American Idol’ After two weeks of John Lennon and Paul McCartney tunes, “American Idol” finally and mercifully retired the Beatles theme. That made the contestants, the audience and Heather Mills all very happy. Instead, the theme for the week was birthdays, with everyone singing songs released in the year they were born. The big beneficiary of that was Kristy Lee Cook, who may survive for another week based on the luck of sharing a birthday with Lee Greenwood’s patriotic anthem “God Bless the USA.” MSNBC Read more »

American Idol Extra Top 11 - Amanda Overmyer - Chris Richardson

AI Extra host JD Roberto talks to Amanda Overmyer minutes after she’s eliminated.  She says that she has nothing to bitch about.  She’s not the typical Idol contestant, and to have gotten as far as she did is a big deal.  She says she feels blessed to get as far as she did. JD interviewed Chris Richardson from Season 6.   Chris did some recording in Miami.  He’s working on album and hopes to release it by the end of Summer 08, or at least by the end of 08. There’s a vid of the Idols on the set of this week’s video. Michael Johns, Jason Castro and David Cook are roommates. So are Brooke White, Syesha Mercado, Kristy Lee Cook and Ramiele Malubay. Chickezie rooms with David Archuleta. Amanda Overmyer roomed with Carly Smithson. Amanda is interviewed by JD Roberto:
  • She says she’s not disappointed
  • She doesn’t think she’s American Idol material
  • She’s happy she stuck to her guns performance-wise. Her goals were to get her face on TV and get her sound out there. She wanted to come out every single time and show viewers who she is musically.
  • She would have not sung a ballad next week, or ever. She felt that it’s important to stick to what your good at and where your strengths lie. You can’t be all things to all people.
  • She never thought she would win. She would have been happy coming in 8th.
  • American Idol is the only way she would have pursued music.
  • After Chris Daughtry’s success, she decided to give Idol a go.
  • She felt more comfortable performing to the crowds than performing to the cameras.
After the Jump: Part 1 and Part 2 of Amanda Overmyer’s exit interview.  Chris Richardson performs “All Alone”. Read more »

Spoiler! 5 Contestants to Vie for 11th Spot on This Summer’s Idol Tour During Idol Gives Back

From the Season 7 Spoiler Forum on Idol Forums:
5 contestants compete for 1 WildCard Tour Spot (12th 11th 3 others from the top 24). The double-result show will take place on Thursday. Voting might be free or AI might charge $0.10 (or more) for each vote. All proceeds will go directly to the IGB charity. IGB has been extended to 2 hours and 30 minutes to make room for more Could this be a sign that they are giving the go ahead??
A tour spot is very lucrative. USA Today reports that it is at least a 6 figure salary ($100,000). They might want to have it because WildCard Tour winner = selling more tickets for the tour.
The contestants will compete during Idol Gives Back, and be chosen during Thursday’s elimination show…
